Workshop on Traditional Turkish Ceramics at the Solidarity and Awareness Event for People with Disabilities
On Tuesday, December 17th, as the Department of Traditional Turkish Arts, we were honored to contribute artistically to a meaningful event organized in recognition of International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3rd and Human Rights Day on December 10th. This special event, held in collaboration with Gelibolu Special Care Centre, our Dean’s Office, and the Çanakkale Disabled Persons Association, featured workshops led by Assoc. Prof. İrem Pala, from the Department of Traditional Turkish Arts.
Participants included students of the "Tile Workshop" course—Elvan Tabaklıoğlu, İnci Kutlu, Leyla Akpınar, Öykü Işık, and Ayşe Pedük—who conducted “Traditional Turkish Ceramics: Underglaze Brush Decoration and Potter’s Wheel Workshops.” Department student Emine Melek Şaşmaz also took part in the event.
The event was graced by the presence of Çanakkale Governor Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ömer Toraman and his spouse, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Evren Karayel Gökkaya, Dean Prof. Dr. Didem Çatal, Vice Dean Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gülşah Polat Turhan, Gelibolu Special Care Centre coordinators Mr. Cevat Koç, Ms. Şerife Koç, and their family, as well as National Arm-Wrestling Champion and Paralympic Athlete Ümit Burunlular and his family. This special day brought together individuals from diverse segments of society, fostering connections through art.
In January 2025, the works created during the event will be exhibited, and the ceramics decorated using the underglaze technique by the participants will be mounted as a panel at the Gelibolu Special Care Centre.
